Memorials & celebrations of life
Music has a way of saying what the room cannot. Steven plays memorial services, funerals and celebrations of life with restraint, and will learn any song that was special to your loved one.
Steven understands that a memorial is a deeply personal occasion, and that traditions and expectations differ from one family to the next.
Some families want a hymn played the way it has always been played. Some want the song their father sang in the car. Some want nothing but quiet piano while people find their seats. All of those are the right answer, and Steven will ask enough questions to know which one is yours.
He has played services in chapels, funeral homes, churches, private residences and reception venues, and works closely with funeral directors and clergy throughout Chicagoland. Whatever you decide, the intent is the same: to honor the person you are there for, and to make one part of a difficult week simpler.
What Steven takes care of, so your family has less to arrange.
Send the date and the place, and Steven will reply himself, usually within hours. Services are often arranged in only a few days, and he keeps room in his calendar for them.
If there is a hymn, a classical piece or a recording that mattered to your loved one, Steven will learn and arrange it in advance.
Steven works directly with whoever you would like him to — the funeral director, an event planner, your clergy or a designated family member — on timing and cues, so it is one less call for you.
Quiet piano as guests are seated. Processional and recessional played live, so nothing is cut short. Accompaniment for a soloist, a family member or congregational singing, in whatever key is comfortable. Steven acts throughout with the utmost discretion and sensitivity.
Steven performs solo piano, with vocals if you would like them. If there is no piano where you are gathering, he brings his own, or can arrange the delivery of an acoustic piano for an additional fee. Either way he handles it start to finish and is set up well before anyone arrives.
